Child Porn Hearing Begins for L.A. Couple

LOS ANGELES – A child porn case that shocked the Southland went before a judge last week at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, following the September arrest of a Rancho Santa Margarita couple accused of molesting young children, in some cases as young as an infant, and videotaping their sexual acts for personal and distribution purposes.

The suspects, David Hwang, 31, and Sheila Sikat, 23, were first investigated after a videotape was sent anonymously to law enforcement that contained hundreds of clips from homemade sex videotapes that included the couple having sex with children. A note attached to the tape led to the Hwang residence, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Hwang and Sikat are facing 90 felony counts involving one particular child that the couple molested in California on twelve different occasions. The couple is still being investigated for lewd acts committed with five other children in Texas. Authorities reported that the couple accessed the children by pretending to be interested in brushing up on their parenting skills.

A raid on the couple's home back in September revealed a substantial hoard of child porn videotapes of the couple having sex with children, and an estimated 1,000 child porn images on the husband's hard drive. Hwang also faces additional child molestation charges that stem from sexual abuse of a toddler.

Hwang and Sikat are both being held under tight security. A trial date has not yet been set.
